Chef Greg Nalley from Nalley Fresh interviews a hopeful student!
On Thursday, Friends of Great Kids Farm had their kickoff event for the first Food Fellows Internship Program for Baltimore City Public Schools high school culinary students. The program matches 1 student with each of our partner chefs, and the student will complete a paid 6-week internship in their kitchen, learning as much as they can and gaining as much experience as they can. After that internship is over, the students will present a little bit about what they have learned at the spring open house event that FGKF is hosting on April 28th from 9-12 at the farm. On Thursday, students from Mergenthaler Vocational High School (Mervo), Forest Park High School, Edmonson High School, and Carver High School visited Great Kids Farm to interview with chefs from Atwaters, McCormick, Baltimore Country Club, and Nalley Fresh to see which would be the best fit for them. The students rotated through interviewing with all of the chefs, and were even able to help prepare a wonderful lunch to close out the morning. With the help of one of FGKF's board members, Whitney Burton, part of the event was also attending a resume review and interviewing prep workshop before meeting the chefs. The students felt prepared, and blew the chefs away with their proffessionalism! The chefs are now in the process of picking their favorites, and the students will be matched up accordingly. Friends of Great Kids Farm is so happy to be able to provide this opportunity for students, and would like to thank the chefs from McCormick, Atwaters, Baltimore Country Club, and Nalley Fresh that participated in our kickoff event and have agreed to this partnership.
